The opening ceremony of the XXII Olympic Winter Games took place on 7 February 2014 at the Fisht Olympic Stadium in Sochi. It began symbolically at 20:14 Moscow time and lasted for nearly three hours.
Forty thousand spectators watched the ceremony directly at the Fisht Stadium, as well as three billion TV viewers around the world. One hundred and forty TV cameras covered the broadcast.
In total, more than ten thousand organizers and participants and two thousand volunteers were involved in the preparation of the event.
